19.6.2006 JKMM excursion in Riga

JKMM staff organized an excursion in Riga . The excursion consisted of an extensive tour of the art noveau buildings, the "Historic Centre of Riga" , added to Unesco's World Heritage List in 1997, as well as a trip to Jürmala and visiting upcoming competition sites and the Paul Stradins hospital area.

5.5.2006 Viikki Church wins Chicago Athenaeum’s International Architecture Award

The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and design has selected JKMM’s Viikki Church as one of the 33 new projects selected this year in the Museum's "International Architecture Awards" program for 2006. The program was launched by the Museum in 2005 as a way in which to honor and celebrate the most outstanding architecture designed and built throughout the world.

27.3.2006 JKMM wins international workshop in Riga

The Latvian Ministry of Healt and Paul Stradin university hospital invited JKMM achitects to participate in an international workshop on building new central hospital. See JKMM's winning proposal.

27.3.2006 JKMM wins regular round in Golden skate-tournament

The JKMM rinkball team KINGIS was the winner of the regular round of Golden Skate- tournament with its overwhelmingly stylish play. Final was a very tight match. Team Labra was lucky in overtime and took the 2006 Golden Hockey trophy. KINGIS has already began to prepare for the 2007 tournament.

3.10.2005 JKMM opens new www –site

JKMM Architects opens a new www ­site. The new site incorporates both new design and technology. “Virtual spaces” section presents 3-d models of virtual buildings. The three virtual projects all use a different approach and technology. Moby Dick project is presented with a DVD ­video. Aurora 2 project shows an information model of the building. The virtual model of the Armi project shows a moving virtual panorama of the interior of the building. The virtual spaces can be seen on all workstations by downloading the appropriate program through our website.

23.5.2005 JKMM lecture and exhibition in Kroatia

JKMM Architects projects Aurora 1 and Leipuri were present in Finnish Architecture 02-03 Exhibition in Zagreb, Kroatia. The exhibition was arranged as a part of the Finnish Days of Oris organized by Oris Magazine. Teemu Kurkela gave a lecture of JKMM Architect´s work in Zagreb and Dubrovnik. Other lecturers on Finnish architecture included Juha Leiviskä, Markku Komonen and Severi Blomstedt.

19.4.2005 JKMM excursion in Spain

JKMM staff arranged an architectural excursion in Madrid, Spain. The purpose of the excursion was to experience modern Spanish architecture in person in Madrid area.

21.5.2005 JKMM incorporates new project management technology

JKMM Architects begins to use new technology to organize its projects. The project management and financial management of the office are done with Nova ­program. The new program enables the clients to get on-time information on time spent on design in each project. Ms. Sointu Sahimäki is responsible for the development of the project management program at JKMM.

1.2.2005 JKMM wins honorable mention in Kristiansand concert house competition in Norway

JKMM Architects received honourable mention with its entry “Lanterne” in open international architectural competition for theatre and concert house in Kristiansand, Norway. The competition received 93 entries from 21 countries.

20.12.2004 JKMM wins honorable mention in Simo Chapel competition in helsinki

JKMM Architects received honourable mention with its entry “Kuori” in open architectural competition for a chapel in downtown Helsinki. The competition received 167 entries.

15.9.2004 JKMM joins ararat research project

JKMM Architects joins ARARAT Research Project. The purpose of ARARAT Project is to investigate the use of mobile 3-D technology for use in demonstrations of architectural projects. Other participants in the project include VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, NCC Construction LTD, Senaatti Real Estates, Adactive LTD and TEKES. The research project is expected to be completed in 2007. Architect Janne Järvinen will be responsible for ARARAT at JKMM.

15.8.2004 JKMM wins 1st price with “Moby Dick” in vantaa cultural center competition

JKMM Architects received 1st prize with its entry “Moby Dick” in open architectural competition for Cultural Center in Vantaa, Finland. The competition received 46 entries. Moby Dick, great white whale, will be built near Heureka Science Center, starting year 2007. The project houses a great variety of different cultural institutions. The first phase of the project includes a Dance Pavillion, a Hotel, Imax ­theatre, and a Science Center. In its large scale (over 100 000 sqm2), the building resembles more a small city than a normal building. A sculptural roof is placed above all functions.
